Ladybug
The ladybug is commonly believed to bring good luck. This is a view that certainly would not be
shared by the greenfly, if it had been able to express one. For when the unsuspecting greenfly
is standing with its mouth-parts sunk in the tissue of a leaf sucking juice from it, the ladybird
sees its chance to sneak up on the greenfly, attack it and eat it.
A ladybug larva eats between 200 and 500 greenflies, an adult ladybird even more.
Not a bad record for a life cycle lasting about one month.
